We would like to express our heartfelt thanks for the numerous donations of material that found their way to our central warehouse in Embrach last Saturday, 12 March. More than 20 volunteers spent the whole day pre-sorting kilos of material and making it ready for the next aid transport, which left Switzerland for Poland in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
On 28 pallets, 950 kilograms of chocolate as well as blankets, mattresses and hygiene articles will reach the refugee camps near the border in Poland. Just a few days earlier, a power generator had already found its destination in Ukraine. It will be used in the Sheptytskyi Hospital in Lviv, where it is urgently needed.
The region around the western Ukrainian city of Lviv is now also under attack. At the same time, the region is one of the bases for Malteser International's engagement. In Poland, Hungary and Romania, 14,400 volunteers are currently working and helping hundreds of thousands of refugees. Capacities are at the limit everywhere. The refugees, most of whom are women and children, need first aid as well as psychological care - and of course a bed and warm food. At the same time, sick refugees who cannot make the journey alone are driven to the border. All these services are currently carried out in 24/7 mode.
Our mission as Malteser Foundation Aide & Assistance is and remains - especially in these challenging times - to strengthen the medical and humanitarian infrastructure in the border regions with our relief transports.
Donations are still not only welcome, but urgently needed.
