Our foundation
Emergency aid, development cooperation, non-profit
The Johanniter-Malteser Stiftung Aide & Assistance is part of the Order of St John and the Order of Malta Switzerland, which are active in charitable work throughout the world. It was founded in 1994 as a section of the Hospitaller Service of the Order of Malta Switzerland. From the beginning, the purpose and aim of the foundation was to provide material humanitarian aid in need hospitals or educational institutions regardless of geographical boundaries.
The activity of the foundation is possible mainly due to the commitment of numerous volunteers from all over Switzerland. On January 1, 2013, this commitment was transferred to an independent foundation of the Order of Malta, Switzerland , in order to be able to organize the steadily growing commitment more effectively and professionally.
By amending the statutes of the Aide & Assistance Foundation at the end of 2023, the way was paved for a collaboration between the Order of Malta Switzerland and the Swiss Johanniter Relief Organisation that legally regulates the existing cooperation and at the same time creates the possibility of joining forces to organise even more help and assistance for people in need worldwide.
The charitable foundation now operates under the name "Johanniter-Malteser Stiftung Aide & Assistance". It is funded on voluntary work and financed by donations from private individuals, foundations and companies.
Our mission
We make access to health and medical treatment possible for people all over the world by recycling medical goods from all over Switzerland.
As an organisation, we are specialised in collecting hospital equipment that is no longer needed in Switzerland but is still in good condition. We arrange and transport this free of charge to institutions in need worldwide. With an average of
50 transports a year, this gives several thousand children and adults access to health care.
We are also often supported with material from schools that is no longer needed and can therefore make an important contribution to children's development.
The CO2 emissions for disposal are saved, and the transport costs only about half of what disposal would cost in Switzerland.
We work mainly on a voluntary basis and are supported by volunteers. Our motivation and basic attitude are: Sharing health!
